Wintzenheim. The giant sequoias of La Forge labeled “remarkable trees”

Wintzenheim. The giant sequoias of La Forge labeled “remarkable trees”

With its height of 40 m and its circumference of 8.10 m (at 1.30 m height), the largest of the 16 giant sequoias in the Kiener de La Forge park in Wintzenheim is quite impressive. The group, which it forms with 15 others, has just been awarded the “remarkable tree” label by the Arbres association (Remarkable Trees, Assessment, Research, Studies and Conservation).

This is the 5th tree complex to be labeled in the Haut-Rhin after a lime tree in Bergheim , a Douglas fir in Ribeauvillé, a larch forest in Durmenach and an oak in Saint-Ulrich in the Sundgau. The Kiener family park was laid out in the second half of the 19th century by the landscape gardener and nurseryman Jean Baumann, with many American species such as tulip trees (now extinct), magnolias, Arizona cypresses, etc.
